Floristry guided by British grown flowers

Hi, I'm Jane, the face behind British Blooms By Jane. I've been fascinated with floristry for as long as I can remember, always taking apart flower bouquets I'd receive, re-doing them my way and photographing them endlessly!! A corporate career in the media took me in a completely different direction and it wasn't until I was in my 50s, that I took the plunge into floristry, first attending college to get my City & Guilds floristry qualification, then working as a freelancer and for other florists. I never intended to set up my own business, but the more I worked with flowers, the more I realised I wanted to put my own mark on floristry.

My style combines the formal principles and elements of floral design with natural, seasonal locally grown flowers and results in bouquets which are individual, full of character and guided by what is blooming that day.

Why use British gown flowers? Well, for starters, they are beautiful, scented and fresh, but more than that, buying British grown flowers reduces carbon footprint, supports rural economies and works in harmony with the seasons.

At British Blooms By Jane flowers are sourced from local flower farmers in North Somerset, along with others in neighbouring Bristol, Bath and Somerset & occasionally further afield but always from farmers in England and Wales who are using sustainable, regenerative or organic farming methods. This is in stark contrast to supermarket flowers and most high street florists who source from wholesalers that import mass produced cut flowers from around the globe, drastically increasing their carbon footprint.

As well as working with local seasonal flowers, I follow a sustainable approach. This includes a light touch to packaging, using minimal recyclable wrapping, avoiding single use plastics and never using non-biodegradable floral foam which disintegrates into microplastics that are harmful to the environment, to wildlife and to us. Having recently got an electric van, I also now deliver your flowers in a more environmentally friendly manner - and if you are close by, I will walk!

Beautiful flowers you feel good about.
